Thailand as a state began to form only in 1238.
Then the Buddhist state of Sukhothai emerged from scattered lands and principalities.
There were several periods of changing rulers and expanding borders.
In the 16th century, the largest Thai principalities finally merged and the Kingdom of Siam emerged.
❕ By the way, these lands were called Siam exclusively and only by foreigners. According to one version, the name was chosen in tune with the nationality of the “Siamese”, who lived on the territory of what was then Thailand.
In 1932, a new modern stage of the country’s development began. It became a constitutional monarchy and, in order to emphasize its independence, changed its international official name to Thailand.
